New occupations in demand under OINP Canada

New occupations in demand under OINP CanadaNew occupations in demand under OINP Canada

On July 4, 2024, Ontario announced a major expansion of its in-demand skills stream under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This program is designed to address labour shortages in key sectors and now includes a broader range of occupations in order to attract more skilled workers to Ontario, enhance the province's economic growth and address critical workforce needs.

Once again, at Immiland, we take it upon ourselves to pass on good news in immigration and, in this article, we will expand on the details of this provincial nomination program (OINP) in the in-demand skills stream. Here are the details you need to know.

What is OINP in the on-demand skills stream?

The OINP is Ontario's provincial nominee program, whose in-demand skills stream allows Ontario employers to fill job vacancies by hiring foreign workers in specific occupations in high demand and, in addition, provides a pathway to permanent residency for eligible workers.

What must the applicant do to apply for the in-demand skills stream?

Before you can apply for this modality you must:

  1. Register an expression of interest.
  2. Receive an invitation to apply.

In addition, applicants must have a job offer from an Ontario employer.

What are the new changes in the list of in-demand occupations?

The changes to the in-demand skills stream became effective July 1, 2024 and now expand the list of eligible occupations, particularly for positions outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and are intended to make the program more inclusive and responsive to the evolving needs of Ontario's labor market. However, OINP has not yet invited anyone to participate in this program in 2024. See our job board.

Immiland's recommendations for the correct application of OINP

Explore your immigration options, as this program uses two admission systems. If you are interested in these new opportunities under the in-demand skills stream, review the requirements of IRCC in conjunction with the provincial government very carefully.

  • Before submitting your application, register in the expression of interest system or quick entry system to inform OINP that you would like an invitation.
  • If you receive the invitation, make sure that the consent form to be completed is duly completed, that the date is correct, that it bears your signature (and that of your spouse and dependents, if applicable), that you have uploaded other necessary documents in the application, since if there are any inconsistencies, your application will be returned.
  • Provide supporting documents to validate the information in your application and use the service of certified translators in Canada. Immiland offers regular translation services, express translation, special translation, all tailored to the particular requirements of the provinces. View service here.

The OINP is an ideal plan for permanent residency for people who have the skills and experience aligned with Ontario's economic need, however, the federal government makes the final decision to approve the application for permanent residency. Learn more about OINP.
