This score determines who receives an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence, and is based on factors such as age, education level, proficiency in English and/or French, work experience, and if you have a partner, their credentials are also considered. In addition, extra points can be earned for study in Canada, a valid job offer, having family members in the country, or receiving a provincial nomination, which adds up to an additional 600 points.
The maximum total score is 1,200, and the candidates with the highest scores are the ones who receive invitations in the government's lotteries.

In general, a good score is between 470 and 510 points, although it may vary depending on the type of lottery. Using a CRS calculator is key to knowing your estimated score, identifying opportunities for improvement (such as improving your language skills or studying in Canada), and making strategic decisions before applying. It is an essential tool for anyone who wants to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CRS score and why is it important?

Deploy

The CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) is a tool used by the Canadian government to rank Express Entry candidates. It evaluates factors such as age, education, work experience, language and others. The higher your score, the more likely you are to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

How is the CRS score calculated?

Deploy

Scoring is based on four broad categories:

  • Basic human factors (age, education, languages, experience)
  • Spouse or partner (if applicable)
  • Skill transfer factors (combinations that increase your value)
  • Additional factors (such as studies in Canada, siblings in Canada, valid job offer, provincial nomination)

The maximum total score is 1200 points.

What is a good CRS score to receive an invitation?

Deploy

The minimum score varies according to each draw, but is usually between 470 and 510 points. Having more than 500 points generally puts you in a good position, although this may change over time and depending on the type of draw (general or category specific).

How can I increase my CRS score?

Deploy

Some common ways to improve your score include:

  • Repeat the English test (IELTS or CELPIP) to improve your score.
  • Obtain an educational evaluation of additional qualifications
  • Obtain additional work experience or a job offer in Canada.
  • Apply for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which adds up to 600 points.
  • Improving your level of French can also add extra points

How long is my CRS score valid in Express Entry?

Deploy

Once you enter the Express Entry system, your profile is valid for 12 months. If you do not receive an invitation within that period, you can resubmit a new profile. Your CRS score can also be updated if you improve any factors during that time.
