Express Entry 282 Sweepstakes: An Opportunity for French Speakers Express Entry 282 Sweepstakes: An Opportunity for French Speakers

The latest Express Entry lottery, number 282, has made headlines by targeting the specific category: French language proficiency. This lottery issued 7,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 365.

Hello! My name is Andy Rodriguez, I am a regulated consultant for Immiland Canada and I want to share some very valuable information for all those foreigners who know how to speak French and wish to come to this lovely country through Express Entry. Before going into details, it is worth mentioning that with the recent changes in the law for international students, many people are reconsidering their immigration options and are turning to their French language skills and all this is happening because the Canadian government has been actively promoting the immigration of French speakers for some time now. On this occasion, I will give details of the Express Entry System and its most recent lottery number 282, aimed precisely at French-speaking foreigners. Below is a summary of the lottery.

Express Entry 282 Sweepstakes

On February 1, 2024, the Canadian government marked a historic moment with the first lottery of the year aimed specifically at candidates with French language proficiency. The minimum CRS score required was 365. This lottery represents the Canadian government's commitment to increase the number of French-speaking immigrants in communities across the country.

Why are French language skills so important in Canada?

The decline in the percentage of Canadians who speak predominantly French in their own country has prompted the government to take steps to preserve their French customs and culture. According to Statistique Canada, there was a decrease from 20% in 2016 to 19.2% in 2021, this gave rise to the resolution to reverse this trend through the Official Language Action Plan 2023-2028 whose funds allocated during these five years are $137.2 million to thus promote French-speaking immigration. This is very encouraging news for foreigners who speak French or who want to learn the language because they have a golden opportunity to trace their migration route in time thanks to the mastery of the French language. In addition, the Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities in Canada have advocated ambitious targets, calling for a goal of 12% by 2024 and 20% by 2036. At Immiland, we always recommend our clients to continuously prepare themselves and raise their academic level in order to obtain the highest score, in this case, the invitation is for you to evaluate your French level to improve it, if necessary. In our academy Planeta Immiland, we offer, among other services, the preparation for the TEF test. At the end of this article I will share with you the link to the academy. More information here.

What qualification is required for the "French speakers" category?

To qualify for the category, candidates must submit French language test results with a minimum score of 7 in all four language skills at the Canadian immigration language levels. In addition, candidates must meet all requirements specified in the instructions for the round. We invite you to read the official IRCC source, here.

How to apply for Express Entry?

Express Entry is a points-based system for handling applications for permanent residence in Canada. The application process involves two steps:

  1. Submit a profile with the required documents and wait for the invitation (ITA) to arrive.
  2. Submit a completed application for review by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

What are the Express Entry categories?

The category-based draws cover various groups of foreign nationals with competencies, skills and occupations in the following six areas:

French language proficiency.

2. Health occupations.

3. STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) occupations.

4. Commercial occupations.

5. Transportation occupations.

6. Agricultural and agri-food occupations.

What is required to be eligible in each category?

  • For French language proficiency, you must have French language test results demonstrating a minimum score of 7 in all four language skills at Canadian immigration levels.
  • For specific occupation categories, full-time work experience in an eligible occupation for a minimum of six months within the last three years is required in conjunction with the minimum full-time work experience for Express Entry eligibility.
  • All three immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Program are eligible for the draws based on category selections.

What is the projection for Express Entry draws this 2024?

Taking into account that the Express Entry System is designed to carry out different types of draws throughout the year, it is valid to consider that in 2024 the Government of Canada will continue to emphasize the importance of opting for this migration route for qualified applicants who wish to settle permanently in the country to contribute to the economic, cultural and social growth of the region.
