REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADIAN TOURIST VISA

REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADIAN TOURIST VISAREQUIREMENTS FOR CANADIAN TOURIST VISA

Many people aim to travel to Canada as tourists. However, in practice many people are faced with situations where their application is rejected as it is possible to make mistakes or submit incomplete applications when applying for this visa.

In this post we will indicate which are the most important requirements to take into account before applying.

Before we begin, it is important to point out the following:

Each visa application is unique. Therefore, there will be many applications that do not meet these requirements and are still approved. However, in practice many applications are denied due to the broad subjective power of immigration officers. All of the elements presented below come from the experience of years of working in the field and after analyzing hundreds of ATIPS from people who have had their applications denied.

  • Reasons for travel: When applying for a Canadian visa it is important to clearly state the reasons why you wish to go to Canada. This is done in the letter of reasons. In these reasons you should clearly define elements such as the cities you will visit, where you will stay overnight (hotels or airbnbs. Reservations are not required). Or the people you will visit, clearly indicating: name, surname and address in Canada.
  • Invitation letter: If the reason for the trip is to visit a relative or friend, it is of utmost importance that the person you are visiting writes a letter of invitation. It should indicate:

You must include this information about the person you are inviting:

  • full name,
  • date of birth,
  • address and telephone number,
  • your relationship with the person,
  • the purpose of the trip,
  • how long the person plans to stay in Canada,
  • where the person will be housed, and how he or she will pay for things, and
  • when the person plans to leave Canada.

You must include this information about who you are inviting:

  • full name,
  • date of birth,
  • address and telephone number in Canada,
  • professional degree,
  • if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,
  • a photocopy of a document that certifies your status in Canada, such as
  • a Canadian birth certificate, if you were born in Canada,
  • a Canadian citizenship card, if you are a naturalized citizen, or
  • a copy of your PR card or your IMM 1000 landing voucher, if you are a permanent resident,
  • details of your family, such as names and dates of birth of your spouse and dependents (this is mandatory for the super visa for parents and grandparents), and
  • the total number of people living in your household, including the people you sponsored and whose sponsorship is still in force (this is mandatory for the super visa for parents and grandparents).

It is recommended that this letter be sworn before a sworn officer or notary public.

  • Economic capacity: you must demonstrate that you have the financial capacity to support your trip. It is advisable to have the equivalent of CAD$1000 in your currency. In a bank account. This money must be liquid and available at the time of application. Credit cards are not accepted.
  • Travel history: this requirement is really controversial. Although the Supreme Court of Canada has indicated that the absence of previous travel is not a reason to deny a visa, in practice immigration officers, using their discretion, continue to refuse visas on the grounds that the applicant lacks a travel history showing that he or she has respected the immigration laws of other countries in the past.

For this reason, and with the sole objective of minimizing the chances of rejection, Immiland strongly recommends traveling to at least one country prior to applying for a Canadian tourist visa.

  • Rootedness to the country of origin: A tourist visa is a temporary visa. For this reason it is important to demonstrate that the visa applicant has elements that tie him/her to his/her country to return. Rootedness can be demonstrated with the following elements:
  • Real or personal property,
  • Stable job,
  • Company in the applicant's name,
  • Family members.

It is also important to complete all the forms correctly and attach all the documents that support the requirements mentioned above with their respective translation into English or French with an official translator.
