Pilot plan for critical construction workers

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Critical Construction Worker Pilot Plan, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Have an offer of permanent full-time employment from an employer in Nova Scotia, which must be related to one of the approved National Occupational Classification(NOC) codes. The following NOC codes are eligible for the program:
- 70010 - Construction managers: This group includes construction managers who plan, direct and evaluate the activities of a construction company. They are employees of residential, commercial and industrial construction companies and of construction departments of companies outside the construction industry.
- 70011 - Managers of residential construction and renovation: this group includes managers of companies engaged in the construction of new residential dwellings and rehabilitation of existing residential dwellings.
- 72011 - Contractors and supervisors in electrical and telecommunications occupations: this group includes those who supervise and coordinate the activities of workers classified in the following unit groups: electricians (72200), industrial electricians (72201), power system electricians (72202), electrical line and cable workers (72203), telecommunications line and cable installers and repairers (72204), and telecommunications equipment and cable television service installation technicians (72205).
- 72014 - Contractors and supervisors in other construction occupations, installers, repairers and servicers. This group includes managers who supervise and coordinate the activities of various tradesmen, installers and repairmen classified in smaller groups such as masons and insulators(72320), concrete finishers, tile setters and plasterers(73100), among others.
- 72020 - Contractors and supervisors in mechanical occupations: includes those who supervise and coordinate the activities of workers classified in minor groups such as machinery and transportation equipment mechanics (except motor vehicles) (72400), automotive service technicians (72410), other.
- 72106 - Welders and related machine operators: this group includes those who operate welding equipment and are employed by companies that manufacture structural steel and plate, boilers, heavy machinery, aircraft and ships, and other metal products, among others.
- 72200 - Electricians (except industrial and power systems), this group includes employees of electrical contractors and maintenance departments of buildings and other establishments, or may be self-employed. Apprentices are also included in this unit group.
- 72201 - Industrial electricians who install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical equipment, electrical controls and associated electronics. They are employees of electrical contractors and maintenance departments of factories, plants, mines, shipyards and other industrial establishments. Apprentices are also included in this unit group.
- 72310 - Carpenters who work with structures made of wood, wood substitutes, light steel and other materials. They are employed by construction companies, carpentry contractors and maintenance departments of factories, plants and other establishments, or may be self-employed. Apprentices are also included in this unit group.
- 72320 - Masons who work with bricks, concrete blocks, stone and other similar materials to build or repair walls, arches, chimneys, fireplaces and other structures according to plans and specifications. They are employed by construction companies and masonry contractors or may be self-employed. Apprentices are also included in this unit group.
- 72401 - Mechanics who work with heavy mobile equipment used in construction, transportation, forestry, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, farming and similar activities.
- 72402 - Heating, Refrigeration and Air Mechanics working with residential central air conditioning systems, commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems, and combined heating, ventilation and refrigeration systems.
- 72500 - Crane or dragline operators for lifting, moving, positioning or placing machinery, equipment and other large objects at industrial or construction sites, ports, railroad yards, open-pit mines and other similar locations.
- 73100 - Concrete finishers, this group includes those who smooth and finish freshly poured concrete, apply curing or surface treatments, and install, maintain and restore various masonry structures, such as foundations, floors, roofs, sidewalks, walkways, patios and high-rise buildings.
- 73102 - Plasterers, drywall installers and finishers and stuccoers who apply finishes, maintain and restore plaster or similar materials to interior and exterior building walls, ceilings and partitions to produce smooth or decorative surfaces.
- 73110 - Roofers and Shingle Layers who install, repair or replace flat roofs, as well as shingles and similar coverings on pitched roofs. They are employees of general and roofing contractors, or may be self-employed. Apprentices are also included in this unit group.
- 73200 - Residential and commercial installers and servicers who install and service a wide variety of interior and exterior precast products such as windows, doors, appliances, water heaters, fences, play structures, and septic and irrigation systems on residential, commercial or institutional properties.
- 73400 - Operators of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, airports, pipelines, tunnels, buildings and other structures.
- 75101 - Material handlers who move, load and unload by hand or with equipment. They are employed by transportation, warehousing and moving companies, and by a variety of manufacturing and processing companies and retail and wholesale warehouses.
- 75110 - Helpers and workers in construction trades in quarries and open-pit mines.
- 75119 - Other helpers and trades workers who assist skilled tradesmen and perform labor activities in the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial machinery, among others.
2. Have at least one year of work experience related to the job offer.
3. Have a high school diploma or provide proof of completion of a specific training program in the construction industry.
4. Be between 21 and 55 years of age.
5. Demonstrate language proficiency equivalent to a CLB 5 (if your NOC code is in the NOC/TEER 0, 1, 2, 3 category), or to CLB level 4 (if you are in the NOC/TEER 4 and 5 category). This language proficiency requirement applies even if your first language is English or French.
6. Be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to successfully establish yourself in Nova Scotia.
