Studying masters to travel with your partner to CanadaStudying masters to travel with your partner to Canada

If you are considering Canada for further higher education, know that selecting a master's degree or PhD will allow you to bring your partner with an open work permit. This is excellent news, now that IRCC has announced significant changes for international students this year 2024. We know very well that a master's degree comes with very competitive requirements, but we also know that it offers more benefits for the applicant and their partner. So let's go with this Immiland article to let you know the advantages of doing a Master's or Phd in Canada, the programs and universities that offer them with no registration fee.

Open work permit for student partners

This work benefit is crucial in times of immigration changes in Canada, because, on one hand, studying for more than two years away from the warmth of your life partner can be very unsettling, the experience would not be equal for both of you, but this benefit is a wonderful opportunity to continue with your partner while preparing academically to achieve more professional success, also, the economic factor is determinant in this because, if your partner can travel with an open work permit, it means that both of you will be more solvent to cover your monthly expenses, that is why we insist so much in seeing this student project as one in which you must make a great effort to reach a higher level in your migratory profile as a student, but also look at the advantages of graduating as a master or doctor in a Canadian university or college, these titles will always be big words for any company that wants to hire you.

Master's degree students and 3-year work permit

Recently, IRCC opted to expand eligibility for Master's degree students to receive longer work permits, whereby PGWPs at the Master's level will continue for the same duration as the program of study, up to and including three years.

Moreover, PGWP-eligible designated learning institutions (DLIs), which are at least two years in duration, are also eligible for a three-year work permit.

The importance of choosing a good master's program

In Canada, there are many colleges and universities to study at the master's level, but not all of them work to stay longer in the country acquiring work experience after graduation, so it is very important to know which is the program that best suits your interests. A common mistake is precisely to choose a low cost institution, but know that many times they do not grant the PGWP, or apply for any program of study, so you end up compromising time and money.

It is best that you know the master's degrees that will be useful for you to apply, get the acceptance letter and your partner can apply for a work permit. If you are already inside Canada with a study permit, your partner can continue working with an open work permit and extend it. If you have already applied and are waiting for a response, you have nothing to worry about because everything is fine; the same if your spouse's open work permit is approved, as well as the application; what does it mean to choose well, very simple, it means that you must follow a logical thread regarding what you studied in the past and what you want to study now, Canada values professional specialization very much because it knows the significant contribution of foreigners for the economic growth and general progress of the country.

Now, it is important to know that each university has its own admission process and many of them can take up to eight months to deliver an acceptance letter, that is a long time for some, but there are educational options that deliver the same letter in less time, and it is right here where we want to inform you that there are ways to make the registration and receive the acceptance letter in just two months, approximately; Immiland Canada has agreements with institutions that include shorter programs than those of large universities, which take eight months, and work the same to apply, in addition, we reiterate that they offer the PGWP and the possibility of open permission for your partner.
