On March 21, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the most recent Express Entry draw, issuing 7500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates in the French language proficiency category. To be eligible, participants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 379 and to have created an Express Entry profile by 2:53 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on March 6, 2025.
Today we dedicate the Immiland Canada blog to the Express Entry sweepstakes focused on French-speaking candidates so far in 2025 and the growing relevance of the French language in the immigration process. Read with me to the end on this important focus - let's get started!
The 2025 drawings in the French language proficiency category
As of the date of this article, there have been three Express Entry draws for the French Proficiency category. The first was held on February 19, 2025, 6500 invitations were issued and the minimum required score surprised many, dropping from 466, last year, to 428. Then, on March 6, 4500 ITAs were issued and the CRS score was even lower, at 410.
The most recent draw for the French Proficiency category, mentioned at the beginning, adds to the above figures and reflects an ongoing effort by the Canadian government to encourage the immigration of French-speakers into communities that lack this language proficiency and benefit greatly from cultural diversity.
The 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan and the commitment to French-speaking immigration
The invitations issued to date total 18,500 francophone candidates who will soon be processing their applications for permanent residency. Indeed, Canada demonstrates a continued commitment to the promotion of francophone immigration, especially in communities outside Quebec. This approach seeks to strengthen cultural diversity and address the country's economic and demographic needs. According to the plan, the country prioritizes economic immigration, with 62% of permanent resident admissions earmarked for this category by 2027.
