Emigrating to Canada according to your profile: the right decision
Testimony of Alfredo Díaz Gil
From the series: Immiland - Life Project
Lately, at Immiland, we have been receiving the most inspiring testimonials from users and clients who in their eagerness to find the best way to immigrate to Canada came into our lives to allow us to help them in their travel process, and while we have been their guides to take the right steps, we must also recognize that they have much to teach in terms of perseverance and resilience because they left everything to start from scratch in a different country like Canada, whose cold climate and diverse culture contrasts with our warm lands and people rooted in very familiar traditions.
That is why we decided to create the series: Immiland - Life Project, which serves to open the doors to those who one day broke their own barriers and want to share with our readers their journeys and triumphs in a sincere and encouraging testimony.
Today we are pleased to publish the story of Alfredo Díaz Gil, a grateful and successful Colombian who embarked on a journey of emotions, uncertainty and confidence to Canada. This is his story!
Testimony of Alfredo Díaz Gil
Hello, Immiland, it is always a pleasure to greet you.
Today, I am writing these lines to thank you for the process I started (and hope to finish) with you throughout this career of emigrating to Canada.
A channel of light on how to immigrate to Canada
When the idea of emigrating to Canada germinated in my head, I started following different YouTube channels and influencers through social networks. Fortunately, in that long search to find a real and sensible person who could guide me, I came across Eddy Ramirez, Venezuelan and Canadian lawyer, CEO and founder of the company Immiland, who was my biggest motivation and engine to move forward with this adventure. Eddy Ramirez manages the YouTube channel @immiland with videos on Canadian immigration.
Having verified their networks and after exploring their pages and work team, I signed up with them to make an immigration appointment, that was my first direct contact with the company. In the midst of so many doubts, I knew it was the right decision to be able to have light in a panorama that began to become clearer and to show me the best way according to my profile.
A migration consultant with a family atmosphere
From Immiland's website you can choose the consultant who will handle your case by clicking on his or her photo and although they all have a profile worth admiring, I decided to consult with a person who was very familiar to me for his ability to generate empathy and the tact with which he conducted the entire interview, he is the lawyer Andy Rodriguez. His credentials speak for themselves. Andy Rodriguez handled my process with professionalism, as did the entire Immiland team.
The joy of discovering that you have not one, but two ways to migrate
After discussing my work experience, what positions and positions I have held in recent years at work, my academic achievements, even the financial funds available for travel, and even whether I speak English or French well, among other specific aspects of the consultation, Andy made me realize that I had not one, but two possible routes to emigrate: the study route and the nominal Express Entry system route.
Discovering that I had these two options made my life happy, but something told me that it was not that simple, there was more to do. Andy explained to me that Canada is a very demanding country and you have to improve your level of studies, learn the official languages of the country very well (English and French, at least one), take them to an intermediate B2 or higher, etc. Until we finally determined which path to take.
Studying again: a storm of emotions
Ultimately, my process would be done through study, and I already knew that working on improving the required level was the first and most important step to enter the institution. The very idea of going back to a classroom, of setting aside quality time to get a much more specialized training and the feeling of getting closer to the Canadian dream led me to want to do things under a reliable guidance, which is why I contacted the education area of Immiland.
On the Immiland website, I went to the Services tab and began to explore everything they describe in Education. It is exciting to begin to know the different provinces that Canada has, the language they speak, their cost of living, a general tour of their geography, the colleges and universities they have and something very interesting, the alliances that Immiland has with some of them, since they offer you registration benefits, even some with zero cost of enrollment or with discounts.
Of course I made a new appointment in which they offered me different study options focused on my profile; I really liked that they told me about an agreement they have to improve the language with the ILAC institution, for this moment they did not have the language courses they currently offer at the Planeta Immiland school, which, by the way, are very attractive.
Throughout 1 year I was studying English with ILAC and, to my great surprise, within that year I received the invitation letter from the College Justice Institute of British Columbia! and all the emotions began to form a storm that was about to become a hurricane. I finished my studies with ILAC, achieved the level required by the institution to attend classes and started the process with Immiland to apply for a student visa.
From raising academic standards to applying to the Canadian Consulate
As the days went by, I became more and more grateful for the diligent way in which the areas in charge of my process at immiland contacted me. The attention of the educational advisor Alejandro Caicedo, an expert in Canadian higher education, was crucial for me because it led me to explore the Canadian educational system in a way that I had not even imagined, it was there that I understood the importance of maintaining a logical and progressive thread of studies and the clarity that one must have about the preferred province to live in.
He and the director of the education department, Angy Diaz, academic career strategist in Canada, among other members of the team that in one way or another responded to my requirements, provided me with support and the ability to resolve any inconvenience I encountered.
Finally, I received the notification that I had to present myself at the Canadian Consulate for biometric registration! I was conflicted with emotions, dealing with too much joy and fear at the same time in the face of what was to come. I don't remember exactly how long it took to get the answer, but what I am sure of is that it took less than three months for my passport to arrive with the visa stamped in it. While on the one hand, seeing it filled me with happiness, on the other hand I felt fearful because I knew I was venturing into something totally unknown.
Home sweet home in British Columbia
As expected, I arrived in Canada. I had specifically chosen the beautiful province of British Columbia, since the high school that awaited me was in the cozy city of New Westminster. Something very important that I want to tell you is the fact of planning in advance where to arrive, because once outside the country of origin it is always necessary to have the stability of a home.
I will not deny that at first it was a challenge because we arrived as nomads moving from one place to another looking for the best location, but fortunately I had entered many times to the services from the website of Immiland and had explored the broad portfolio that they have to prepare before, during and already in Canada, which is why I contacted them once again to request guidance in the search for housing.
To my great satisfaction, I was offered multiple settlement options, as well as recommended sites for housing search, until I finally found an excellent place in Vancouver, where I was able to settle down and feel at home, sweet home.
PGWP and permanent residency: Canada's biggest challenges
Currently, I have been studying for more than a year, which I will finish in April 2025. Something I have not told you is that I am a lawyer, but because in my country of origin (Colombia) I had a restaurant and gained experience in the kitchen area, unthinkable doors opened for me to work in an excellent resort that is very popular with tourists. This company has many tourism offers throughout the province and has allowed me to visit countless places for free.
Something that caught my attention since I started working with them is that to promote tourism they create challenges and, if you manage to reach the different levels they have, you get several rewards, in fact, I already have a privilege pass to enter many places for free or with super discounts. Although I confess that the biggest challenge we lawyers have is to find a job where the experience is related to our studies to be able to take advantage of the PGWP, which is the work permit that can be requested from the Canadian government after graduation, and apply for permanent residence.
To finish my story, I want to emphasize that I am currently focused on this aspect of the PGWP, because as recommended by the CEO of Immiland, Eddy Ramirez, in her Youtube channel and her reels, we must run for when we have the post-graduation work permit so that we do not lose valuable time to acquire the necessary experience and achieve our goal: permanent residency.
Total thanks to Eddy Ramirez and his team at Immiland! Their work is exceptional, and the determination and commitment they put into every step makes one feel guided with absolute confidence!
