Studying in Canada is a dream of many foreigners. For some, it seems far away, for others, almost impossible, and for those who dedicate effort, perseverance and follow the right guide, a reality. What begins as an idea, perhaps vague at first, becomes a life plan that requires many sacrifices, but with the beautiful reward of being able to write a new story.

This is the testimony of Erika, a client of our international study agency, Immiland EducationShe tells us about a journey that demonstrates what it means to study in Canada for a foreigner: from the first steps in her country to what she has to take into account when she arrives in a new home.

Read with me to the end of the blog and discover how expert advice and a network of university partners can be the key to making your dream a reality. Let's get started!

Testimony of perseverance and success in Canada

"This message is for you, my Latin brother and, especially, my Cuban brother: sí se puede..."

A few years ago, Canada was just a dream. Today, it is my home! Hi, I'm Erika and I want to share what our journey from Cuba to Canada was like, and what it has been like to live, study and work in this beautiful country.

The process

Getting here was not easy. It required sacrifices and perseverance. Since high school I dreamed of studying in Canada, because it offers opportunities and a secure future. I studied French at the Alliance Française de Cuba, improved my English and, with my husband Edgar, we started saving. We legalized and translated all our documents. After three years of preparation, we chose Immiland to accompany us, and we were not wrong.

Our consultant, Angy Diazwas with us from start to finish with patience and affection. Thanks to her, every obstacle became a step closer to the goal. And the most incredible thing: the whole process was 100% free. The truth is that we felt very supported. We couldn't be happier and more grateful.

  • With Immiland's support, I was accepted to two institutions, but I decided to attend the University of Niagara Falls Canada. University of Niagara Falls Canadathanks to a special scholarship for Latino students and other benefits.

Then came the visa application, which was approved in less than 15 days. In total, the process in Cuba took one month.

The big day!

We will never forget the day of the trip. Nerves, joy, tears... but, above all, hope. Everything flowed wonderfully and, almost without realizing it, we were already living what would be our first day in Canada. Undoubtedly the most beautiful and unforgettable of all.

Our life in Canada: the good and the bad

Today we have been here for 9 months. At the beginning it was not easy: a winter that, although magical, seemed eternal. To be honest, arriving in that season slowed everything down. We were afraid, but with patience, today we both work in a hotel. It has not been easy to get more qualified jobs, but we did not give up, we kept improving our profiles.

We love the waterfalls, the tranquility of the city and the security that surrounds us. Of course, not everything is perfect, getting higher skilled jobs has been a challenge, and not having a car has limited opportunities somewhat. From our experience, we have seen that Niagara relies heavily on tourism, which generates more seasonal jobs. Still, we don't give up: we keep improving our profiles, networking and applying with strategy.

My experience as a UNF student

Being part of UNF has been one of the best experiences, not only because of the quality of the programs, but because of the community.Being an international student has its challenges, the language, the weather, the finances, but the university offers many tools that make the transition and adaptation process easier.

I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Digital Media and Global Communication. What I enjoy most is the practicality of the classes and the flexibility of the schedules. I was also honored to receive the Community Leadership Award for my participation in volunteering, something that made me feel more integrated.

A message for you

If you ask me if it was worth it, I tell you with my heart in my hand: yes, every sacrifice was worth it. If you are dreaming of studying in Canada, take the plunge! It is an experience that transforms your life, opens doors and shows you what you are capable of achieving.

Thank you, Immiland, for being part of this dream.

And you, what would you be willing to do for your dream?

Erika
