Canada is one of the best countries with a high favorability index in quality of life, safety and economic development, it is one of the most popular and sought after destinations for international students, this is due to beneficial components such as its prestigious private and public institutions, intercultural development, part-time and post-graduation job opportunities, a better quality of life, varied job opportunities among many others.

If your dream is to study in Canada and you still need a push to define your destination, here are 5 reasons why you will know that this is the ideal place for you:

1. Excellent academic and professional preparation:

The post-secondary education system stands out because it allows students to access excellent professional technical training, where academic and practical contents are combined in classrooms with a maximum of 35 students, where one of the most important points is the connection between student-teacher and there is a cultural development with the other classmates. Teamwork is usually given more importance than final exams for example, since the purpose of Canadian education is to form integral professionals in terms of society, culture and professionalism in their fields of study.

Wide variety available:

Canada has about 223 public and private universities, and 213 public colleges and institutes, which offer a variety of academic program options available to students who have just graduated from high school and wish to study a post-secondary program for the first time as well as those professionals who wish to take the next step in their careers. The possible degree options are:

  • College 2-year diplomas,
  • University 2-year Diplomas
  • Advanced 3-year diplomas,
  • 1-year College Certificate,
  • Graduate certificate of 1 or 2 years,
  • Graduate Diplomas of 1 or 2 years,
  • 1 or 2-year master's degrees.

The most common class starts are in January, May and September, with the common academic periods being Spring from March to mid-May, Summer from June to mid-September and Fall from September to mid-November. The advantage of this is the flexibility available to select the start of classes according to the student's preference.

These institutions usually allow students to apply for different entrance scholarships, academic scholarships, project participation scholarships and many others, in addition to different financing options.

Upon completion of their studies, students can begin their working lives and if possible and if preferred, students can transfer academic credits to universities to complement their technical education and pursue professional degrees, either from Canadian institutions or even from their home countries.

3. Beyond academia:

The institutions are concerned about the quality of student life, as it has been demonstrated for several years that this is clearly related to the student's academic performance. New services have been developed and included, such as cafeterias and restaurants on campus, psychological and academic counseling, space and entertainment areas for students, sports facilities and art schools for the cognitive development of students, extended accompaniment during the afternoon on campus, programs for the inclusion of communities and minorities, among many other services.

4. Openness to the world of work:

There is a very big advantage and that is that students can access co-op programs or paid internships that help and prepare students to face the working life from day one. Additionally, you should know that students receive support from the specialists of the career services departments provided by their institutions, so they always have a great ally when it comes to take flight to the professional world.

As mentioned before, Colleges and Universities have very well developed career departments where they help students to define a career pathway according to their studies, in addition to that students can access:

  • I work up to 20 hours per week during classes,
  • I work full time during scheduled breaks (usually summer, winter and sometimes spring).

For this great possibility remember that you must have a valid Study Permit, be enrolled in an academic institution of post-secondary studies and be a full-time student (meet an academic schedule of at least 20 hours of classes per week).
