Sweepstakes for health and education professionalsSweepstakes for health and education professionals

Canada's Express Entry system kicked off the month of May with two very important draws that reflect the government's focus on attracting professionals in priority sectors, such as education and health.

Is education now an Express Entry category? That's right! This year 2025, education entered as part of the priority sectors. This means that in the selection rounds for inviting permanent residency, educators will have more opportunities to be considered when a specific round opens for this category, as well as health and other categories.

Read with me below and take note of the number of invitations and scores candidates needed and how you can improve your immigration profile. Let's get started!

Drawings for May 1 and 2, 2025

May 1: Drawing for Educational Occupations

The Canadian government manages Express Entry draws strategically and analyzes the local situation and its labor shortage in essential sectors, in order to achieve the balance and well-being of its inhabitants. In this case, education and health, in short, are being prioritized by the country, and it is thanks to the skilled immigrant population that Canada is moving these occupations in the right direction.

The value of profiling for Health and Education professionals

For candidates in these areas, it is a key requirement to have elements that enhance their profile, the main ones are:

  1. Professional work experience in Canada or abroad.
  2. Formal education with recognized degrees within and/or outside Canada.
  3. Proficiency in English or French, which significantly improves the CRS score.
  4. Professional certifications that validate their skills in the country.

Recommendations for adapting to the new migration approach of 2025

The Canadian government, under the leadership of Mark Carney as Prime Minister, plans to attract talent between 2025 and 2030 with an approach linked to housing capacity and labor market needs. The pace of migration will be slowing, according to its program, so maximizing the chances of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) is recommended:

  • Improve your education by obtaining recognized degrees in Canada.
  • Acquire Canadian work experience, either through work permits or internships.
  • Strengthen your linguistic profile, especially in French, which remains a priority in immigration. Visit our academy for immigration purposes to Canada and find certified English and French courses, click here.
  • Explore provincial programs, these are alternative paths to permanent residency.
