Manitoba sweepstakes takes connection and strategic recruitment into account for emigration Manitoba sweepstakes takes connection and strategic recruitment into account for emigration

Did you know that your connection to Manitoba may be the key to obtaining permanent residency in Canada?

This beautiful province, known for its vast prairies, myriad lakes and diversified economy, is recruiting skilled foreign workers who want to live in Canada.

Manitoba has been one of the few provinces to have consistent Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) draws in 2025. In the latest draw on May 15, 62 candidates were invited to apply for the provincial nomination. Previously, on May 1, it had also invited qualified workers from outside Canada to apply.

If you want to immigrate to Canada and live in the province of Manitoba, read with me to the end to learn how to be successful in applying for permanent residency. Let's get started!

How to generate connection with Manitoba

To apply for the Overseas Skilled Worker stream, the candidate for permanent residency in Manitoba needs to demonstrate an established connection to Manitoba through one of these options:

  • Have family or friends in Manitoba who can support you.
  • Have previously worked or studied in the province, showing local experience.
  • Be identified and selected through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) recruitment process, a strategic migration pathway.

If you don't already have a direct connection to Manitoba, you can create a strategy to establish one with some of these options:

  • Study at an educational institution in the province, as this can help you gain local experience and facilitate your integration.
  • Apply to job offers in the province that will lead you to establish a link.
  • Participate in MPNP recruiting events for candidates invited to apply if they meet the job requirements.

Factors that Manitoba evaluates for selection

In addition to the Manitoba connection, candidates must score at least 60 out of 100 points on the provincial assessment grid. For this, five key aspects are considered: age (21 and 45); education in areas demanded by the province; work experience in key sectors such as manufacturing, health, technology and agriculture; proficiency in English and/or French, as bilingualism is an important factor for integration; and the candidate's adaptability to settle in Manitoba and contribute to their community.

If your profile meets the required criteria, you could be selected in the next recruitment process, this would be a direct pass to permanent residency in Canada!

Alternatives if you have no connection to Manitoba

If you do not have a connection to Manitoba, other provinces also offer provincial nomination programs for skilled workers, for example, Alberta, which, between April and May, issued a total of 295 invitations for candidates in six immigration pathways. Priority sectors were previously identified as: health and rural labor shortages.

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), which is also a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates of a Canadian institution. The AIP is designed for those who wish to work and live in one of Canada's four Atlantic provinces - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island (PEI) or Newfoundland and Labrador- and helps employers recruit qualified candidates for jobs they have been unable to fill locally. Newfoundland and Labrador recently held two lotteries in which it issued a total of 328 invitations.

Each province has specific criteria, so it is advisable to evaluate which one best suits your profile before starting the process.
