The PGWP stands for "Post-Graduation Work Permit Open Work Permit" is provided to international students who meet all the requirements to obtain it. Among them are:

1. Choose an institution that belongs to the DLI (Designated Learning Institutions List), the government-designated list of institutions that are eligible to grant you a study permit so that you can come to Canada to study.

DLI official website:

2. In addition to belonging to the DLI, the institution must be eligible for the PGWP. You can check on the same page shared above by selecting the province and name of the institution whether or not it is eligible for the PGWP.

These 2 points are the ones to keep in mind when you start with the selection of your academic program when looking for a permanent residency in Canada, but why? What makes it so important in the process? These two questions are the most frequently asked by our clients and it turns out that this open work permit is what will allow them to stay and work in Canada after they graduate. If the institution is not eligible they will have to return to their home country when they finish their program of study.

Studying a program of study that makes them eligible for the PGWP and that has at least 2 years of duration will allow them to opt for an open work permit of 2 to 3 years (the time will depend on the immigration officer who approves their permit) and after obtaining the Canadian work experience required by the province in this time of work permit and complying with the other requirements demanded by the immigration plan to apply, they will be eligible for permanent residency in Canada.

That is why at Immiland Education we only offer PGWP eligible institutions and programs, it is our seal of guarantee.
