New Pilot Program for Critical Workers in New Brunswick

New Pilot Program for Critical Workers in New BrunswickNew Pilot Program for Critical Workers in New Brunswick

The country of the maple leaf surprises us again, on November 7th, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser informed about a new permanent residency program in Canada called Critical Worker Pilot in New Brunswick. This program will last for 5 years and is intended to attract skilled workers for hard-to-fill occupations. This will make it possible to fill vacancies in Canada in this province by recruiting foreign nationals.

The program offers flexibility for the worker, as it requires those employers participating in the program to have a robust and successful new immigrant settlement and matching plan, which could mean that employees will have a number of benefits. In addition, the employer must have a plan to actively provide training of up to 200 hours to improve the language skills of its workers, so the language to work in Canada in this province under this program may not be a limitation to achieve one of these vacancies. It is not yet clear how companies will make use of these hours.

For these reasons, the pilot starts with 6 employers in New Brunswick only, who have shown a clean immigration record and a large and verifiable commitment to their international workforce matching and language plans. The targeted companies are:

  • Cooke Aquaculture.
  • Groupe Savoie Inc.
  • Westco Group.
  • Imperial Manufacturing.
  • JD Irving Ltd.
  • McCain Foods.

There are still no details regarding the implementation of this program and in practice how it will work, so more news will be released to the audience when the government releases extra details regarding the eligibility of workers and requirements for job offers in Canada.
