Step by step to apply to the desired institution

At Immiland, we know very well that studying in Canada requires a general preparation that allows the student to ensure the success of his or her admission to the college or university, that is why we will gladly explain the step by step process to apply to the desired institution.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the requirements mentioned below are general and may vary depending on the program chosen by the student:

Step 1 - Define why you want to study in Canada

If your reason is immigration, you must ensure that the institution is part of the List of Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) and that the program is eligible for the Post-Graduation Open Work Permit (PGWP), in addition to this it is recommended to choose an academic program of at least 2 years duration so that the Post-Graduation Work Permit is up to 3 years.

Step 2 - Define the province where you want to study

Canada is the second largest country in territory in the world and it is impressive how the lifestyle changes depending on the province you select. If you have decided to come to Canada to study for immigration reasons, it is essential that you first choose the province and then select the program you want, so you can make sure that the province fits your profile.

Step 3 - Choosing the educational program together with the college or university

In this step, the most important recommendation is to continue with the logical thread of your professional profile. If you already have a university degree, the ideal is to choose a postgraduate or master's degree that complements it, that is, it is not recommended to repeat studies or study a program with a lower degree than what you currently have, nor is it advisable to change the academic area. It is important that you take into account the costs of the first year of studies (this is the total annual cost of the program plus the cost of living expenses) since you will need to demonstrate funds when you are in the visa process.

Step 4 - Collection of documents

It is essential to have all the documentation required by the college or university where you wish to study; for this, we share the general list of what you will need when applying to the institution:

For an undergraduate program, it requires the following:

  • High school diploma with official translation.
  • High school grades (all years) with official translation.
  • Min GPA: 50.0% (grade point average must be at least 50%).
  • Valid passport.
  • Birth certificate with official translation.
  • Language test (Academic IELTS, TOEFL IBT).

For a graduate/post degree type program, it requires the following:

  • University diploma with its official translation.
  • University grades/grades (all years) with official translation.
  • Min GPA: the average percentage varies depending on the educational program (usually between 60% to 70%).
  • Valid passport.
  • Birth certificate with official translation.
  • Language test (Academic IELTS, TOEFL IBT).

Step 5 - Send the documentation to your Immiland Academic Advisor

Once you have all the documents, just send them to your academic advisor at Immiland so that he/she can verify that they are complete and can send them to the institution for the start of classes available. It is not recommended to apply with incomplete documents as you run the risk of being denied acceptance to the college or university.

Step 6 - Wait for a response from the institution

After Immiland's academic advisor has sent your documents to the institution, you must wait for a response to your application; please note the following:

  1. If it is a college, the institution can take between 4 and 12 weeks on average to respond to the application. If it is a public university, it can take up to 20 weeks to respond.
  2. Once the applicant is accepted, the institution generates an offer indicating that he/she has met the requirements and has been accepted. From that moment on, he/she must pay (normally the first semester) to receive the acceptance letter with which he/she will apply for the visa. You should keep in mind that this money is normally returned only if the visa is denied, so it is not recommended to pay if you are not sure that this is the institution you want to attend and you have no other applications in process.
  3. Once the payment has been made, you will receive the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and after that you can start your visa process.
