In Canada, October 2024 began with new immigration draws by the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. This time, the popular province issued invitations to apply to candidates with professional experience, education level and strategic recruitment initiative.

At the end of September, Manitoba, a beautiful province surrounded by lakes and prairies, had invited candidates under the International Education and Overseas Skilled Worker category. This is good news for those interested in permanent living in Canada!

I invite you to read this article from our Immiland Canada Blog to learn the details of these sweepstakes and your permanent residency benefits. Let's get started!

Benefits for invited candidates

The main benefit to candidates who receive a Provincial Nomination (PN) through the BC PNP is that they can apply for permanent residency in British Columbia, but in addition, foreign nationals who receive the ITA and manage to meet all the requirements as required by the provincial portal will enjoy faster processing times than other Canadian immigration programs.

Criteria for the issuance of an ITA in specific skills immigration programs

BC PNP relies on the following criteria for specific selection:

  • Education: level, field of education and where completed.
  • Eligible professional designations in BC.
  • Language skills (speaking English is essential).
  • Occupation.
  • Duration and skill level of work experience.
  • Salary and/or skill level of the job offer.
  • Intention to live, work and settle in a specific region.
  • Strategic priorities: factors that address specific labour market needs in British Columbia or support government pilot projects and initiatives.

Important: remember that to find out if you have received an ITA through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program, you must log in to your online profile on the province's official portal. If you need to improve your profile to apply, you can request an immigration consultation with Immiland Canada.

What should be done after receiving an ITA by the BC PNP?

When a candidate for permanent residence in Canada applies to the province of British Columbia and their application is approved, they should watch for the province to send them their nomination package, which contains the documents they will use to apply for their new legal status. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. You must submit your application to IRCC to become a permanent resident of Canada before your Confirmation of Nomination document expires.
  2. You must comply with the nomination conditions while awaiting a decision on your application for permanent residence.

Important: the nomination conditions can be found in the Skills Immigration Program Guide and will be sent with your nomination package. If you have questions about this step or require the advice of an Immiland Canada immigration consultant, you can contact us directly here.

What to do if the application was rejected?

Although the application process for permanent residence is specific and the candidates who apply usually meet the selection standards, sometimes it can happen that your application is rejected for reasons that you cannot understand, but in these cases it is best to stay calm, continue with the process and request a review of the decision through an ATIP: Access to Information and Privacy, this is the ideal tool in Canada to know in detail why the government has rejected your visa.

If your visa was refused and you need an ATIP or reconsideration, you can fill out the form for a consultation with Immiland Canada.

If your profile was not optimal for nomination in British Columbia, you may want to consider other immigration options, often Express Entry categories work better for some applicants because they have an immigration profile that is perfectly suited to this fast-track entry system to Canada. That's as far as I'll keep you company for today. Thank you for reading. I hope this article has been useful to you and that you will soon be able to obtain your permanent resident visa in this beautiful country.

See you in the next blog!

With love,

Immiland Canada
