The province's general minimum wage to date is CAD 15.25 per hour and will increase to CAD 15.75, an increase of CAD 0.50 , effective May 1, 2024.

What is the relationship between Quebec inflation and the new salary?

The beautiful province of Quebec not only offers a good quality of life in terms of social security, free health care and many other benefits for its inhabitants, but it also has a projected inflation rate for the 2024-2025 fiscal year of 2.3% and the new increase is 3.28%, which means that there is a favorable relationship for minimum wage earners, who will now have a disposable income of up to CAD 691.00 per year.

Who will benefit from this increase?

The general minimum wage increase in Quebec will benefit 200,700 employees, including:

  • 111,200 women.
  • Tipped employees, who will also receive this 3.28% increase, will start earning 12.60 per hour.
  • The same increase will apply to employees assigned exclusively, during a pay period, to pick raspberries or strawberries. Therefore, the minimum wage payable will increase to $4.68 per kilogram for raspberry pickers and $1.25 per kilogram for strawberry pickers.

What is Quebec's ranking for minimum wage in Canada?

Quebec is a very particular province, its government manages immigration policies independently from the federal government with economic mobility plans around the preservation of its official language, French, and the promotion of economic growth in the region; in this sense, significant changes in its immigration policies are expected for 2024 and 2025. Now, with this increase, Quebec ranks third in the country's provincial rankings and first among the various Canadian provinces in terms of coverage rate of the market basket measure and cost-of-living-adjusted minimum wage.

In short, one of the best places to live for the cost and quality of life in Canada is the province of Quebec, the fact of maintaining a stable control of its inflationary factors and even more to be able to offer a salary above the annual increase of its costs and rates speak for itself of this region that is home to one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country, as is the charming city of Montreal, as well as universities and colleges of great demand among international students, provincial nomination programs for French speakers and many other good things.
