Alberta issues more than 1,000 ITAs and still has quotas for 2025Alberta issues more than 1,000 ITAs and still has quotas for 2025

The province of Alberta has had its largest round of invitations of the year under the Provincial Nominee Program(PNP), with over 1,000 invitations issued between September 12 and September 17, 2025. These draws have focused on specific candidates to fill job needs, and were conducted through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and several of its streams.

Below are the details of each draw and the available slots for interested candidates in Alberta this 2025. Read with me to the end and find out if you are eligible. Let's get started.

Drawings from September 12 to 17

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program(AAIP) held the following draws for workers:

  • September 12: issued more than 1,000 invitations through the base integration pathway: Alberta Opportunities Program
  • September 16: Issued 320 invitations (ITAs) for Express Entry, through the Accelerated Technology Pathway. Selected candidates had a minimum score of 55.
  • September 17: Issued less than 10 invitations (ITAs) for Express Entry, through the Enforcement Track. Successful applicants had a minimum score of 56.

What is the Alberta Opportunity Program?

The Alberta Opportunity Program is a "base" sub-category/stream of the Alberta Advantage Program, i.e. it is not aligned with the Express Entry system, but rather the province nominates its candidates directly. This stream is designed specifically for temporary foreign workers who are already in Alberta and have strong employment ties to the province.

Eligibility requirements

Candidates must meet these basic requirements:

  1. Be actively working in Alberta in an eligible position.
  2. Have a full-time job offer (12 months or more) from an Alberta employer.
  3. Possess an appropriate work permit (generally with LMIA or accepted waiver).
  4. Have the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma.
  5. Demonstrate 1 year of work experience in Alberta (or 2 years in Canada/abroad).
  6. Minimum language proficiency CLB 5 or CLB 4, depending on the type of occupation.

Alberta Express Entry Streams

Alberta uses the federal Express Entry system to nominate a limited number of candidates. The draws on the 16th and 17th were made through two specific programs, Accelerated Technology Pathway and Enforcement Pathway, respectively.

Eligibility requirements

All applicants for these streams must meet the following requirements at the time of application and evaluation:

  • Have an active Express Entry profile in the federal pool.
  • Meet the criteria of at least one of the federal programs (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Trades Program).
  • Have a minimum score of 300 on the Comprehensive Rating System (CRS).
  • The principal occupation must be part of a specific Express Entry pathway, or be related to a provincial economic, sectoral or occupational priority.
  • Have the intention and ability to live and work permanently in Alberta.

How many slots are available for AAIP for the remainder of 2025?

The Alberta Provincial Nominee Program(AAIP) has recently increased its capacity to continue to invite candidates.

Update as of September 26

  • Nominations issued: 3983.
  • Original allocation: the province's base annual quota was 4875 nominations.
  • Quotas available (initially): there were 892 spaces left to fill from its original quota. However, with the federal increase there is new capacity.

Federal increase and new capacity

The Federal Government granted Alberta an additional quota of 1528 additional nomination slots earlier this month. Bringing Alberta's total allocation for 2025 to 6403 nominations. While the official website does not yet reflect the updated total figure, the reality is that AAIP now has thousands of slots to issue.

Recommendations to take advantage of available AAIP quotas in 2025

The key recommendation goes beyond waiting for an invitation, you need to be ready to receive one at any time. To do so, verify that you meet the basic requirements and evaluate your options through the different avenues of the Alberta Immigration Program. More information on the official Alberta website.
