Withdrawal of application (Withdrawal)
An applicant may withdraw an application at any time until IRCC issues a decision.
When can I apply for a withdrawal?
The option to withdraw an application exists in the following circumstances:
- The applicant has changed his or her mind about becoming a Canadian citizen (for example, the applicant has just realized that he or she will lose his or her current citizenship or no longer wishes to renounce his or her current citizenship).
- The applicant feels that he or she may no longer be able to comply with the requirements of the law.
- The applicant informs the citizenship office that he or she will not be available to continue with his or her application and will remain unavailable for the foreseeable future (e.g., for the next six months or more).
- The applicant's status has changed since the time he/she submitted his/her application and contemplates withdrawal of the application to avoid a visa denial.
- The situation in the refugee claimant's country has changed and the person wishes to return to his or her country of origin.
Can I receive a refund when requesting a withdrawal?
In most cases, a refund can only be obtained if an application is withdrawn before IRCC begins processing it.
If IRCC has begun processing the application, they will only reimburse:
- The right of permanent residence fee (RPRF)
- Citizenship fee entitlement
- Open work permit fee (only for workers exempt from the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA))
- The employer's compliance fee (reimbursed to the employer), and
- International Experience Canada (IEC) Rates
A refund can be requested online.
