Exception to LMIA (Free Trade Agreements)

LMIA-exempt work permits make it easier for a Canadian employer to hire a foreign worker.

There are specific situations in which Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues work permits to those workers who do not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

But what is a Free Trade Agreement?

A free trade agreement is an international agreement that contains provisions between Canada and another country to facilitate the temporary entry of business persons, professionals and/or investors. Eligible persons entering under an FTA will generally need a work permit, but are exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Colombia
Mexico
Panama
Peru
