What is the PGWP?
ThePGWP allows you to work in Canada after completing a post-secondary program of study at a designated learning institution (DLI).
Why is this a great option?
Open Work Permit: Work for any employer, no prior job offer required.
Valuable Experience: Gain Canadian work experience in construction, which counts towards your permanent residency.
Duration Flexibility:
- Programs from 8 months to less than 2 years: PGWP equal to the duration of the program.
- Programs of 2 years or more: PGWP up to 3 years.

2. Federal Programs
Finally, Ontario also collaborates on programs with the federal government and screens applicants for the federal Express Entry system for in-demand occupations, skilled trades and even for workers with qualified experience who are fluent in French.
It is important to emphasize that the Ontario system can become quite competitive. Therefore, it is also positive that applicants do not always have to rely on the provincial system for permanent residency. At the federal level, it is also possible to achieve permanent residency either through the Express Entry system with its Canadian Experience program, or even through special federal pilot programs such as the Rural and Northern program, in which specific areas of Ontario participate.
