Permanent Residency Plan for Students in PEI, Canada

If you are coming to study in Canada, the PEI Provincial Nominee Program for International Students is for you.

In this article, we share valuable information for students who want to live in Canada and get an easier way to permanent residency. Are you ready for a new life in Prince Edward Island? Let's go there!

A beautiful place on Canada's Atlantic Coast

Prince Edward Island is the smallest province in Canada, however, it has an enormous tourist potential, being well known for its beaches, its red and white sands, its cultural richness and its exquisite gastronomy of oysters and mussels, among many other dishes. Prince Edward Island, affectionately called PEI, is located in the east of the country right on the Atlantic coast, its capital is the picturesque city of Charlottetown and has a solid economy based on tourism, fishing, agriculture, biotechnology, clean and renewable energy, aerospace, ocean and maritime technology and manufacturing. It is also one of the provinces with the lowest cost of living in the country.

Which PEI university allows you to apply to the Provincial Graduate Student Nomination Program?

There are several Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) colleges and universities that issue PGWPs on this island to qualify for residency; for example, the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). This university has an impressive campus and offers programs in ten faculties, including a growing number of graduate programs at very affordable prices. Visit the UPEI website to learn more about their academic offerings.

Good news! In Immiland, we have a special partnership through our academy Planeta Immiland that allows you to obtain a passwell for admission to the UPEI and you will not have to take the language test, IELTS or similar, but take the English course with us. How do I get permanent residency in PEI?

A student in Canada can obtain permanent residency through the Provincial International Graduate Nominee Program, which is 100% focused on international students who meet the following basic requirements:

  • Graduated from a public college or university in the province of PEI.
  • Obtained a valid Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).
  • Obtained an offer of permanent employment or a minimum of two years after graduation, it can be in any area, technical professional and also in NOC C and D /TEER 4 or 5.
  • He is between 18 and 59 years of age.
  • You must demonstrate your genuine intention to live in PEI on a permanent basis.
  • It must have sufficient funds to remain in the province.
  • Must have legal status in Canada.

Language requirements vary depending on the TEER level of your job offer:

  • If you are in a highly skilled occupation defined by the TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 classification system, you possess sufficient English and/or French language skills to perform the job. For this purpose, you must complete a special form, which you get at this official link from princeedwardisland.ca
  • If you are in an intermediate qualifying position defined by the Training, Education, Experience and Responsibility classification system as TEER category 4 or 5(link is external), to provide a valid language test result from an IRCC approved testing institution with a minimum score of CLB/NCLC 4. Language tests are valid for 2 years after the date of the test result.

Special considerations for applying to the PEI PNP

  • The job offer should not be seasonal, for example, given the large amount of fish production in the province, many vessels offer employment between July and August, but this job does not apply to this PNP because it is not permanent and does not last a minimum of 2 years.
  • If your job is a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 (i.e. a professional or technical job) you do not require IELTS testing but a statement from your employer certifying in writing that your language level is suitable for the job. Remember that having completed studies in Canada implies that you are already proficient in English.
  • If your job is a TEER 4 or 5 (i.e. a job in any area, e.g. waiter, cashier, floor cleaner, etc.) your English level must be at least IELTS CLB 4.
  • The PEI PNP is for people who wish to stay and live on the island, if you want to live in another province, then reconsider another option such as the federal Canadian Experience Class plan, which requires a minimum of 12 months experience in your professional area.
  • The offer of permanent employment or a minimum of two years is what allows you to apply for permanent residency in PEI

The higher the score, the greater the possibility of obtaining permanent residency.

In Canada, the residency plan is based on points. Although the system asks for your English level to be CLB 4, remember that the government will always evaluate the professional academic and work preparation of each person and will assign points. Do not be satisfied with the lowest level of language or studies, always aspire to a higher level and you will benefit from this and other immigration plans offered by the country.

We hope this information will guide you in your search for permanent residency in Canada. At Immiland, we are here to help you in all aspects of immigration planning and education. If you would like to schedule a consultation with a regulated consultant, click on Immiland Canada.

Your level of English and/or French can improve. Take your free language level test and learn more about our Planeta Immiland Education academy.
